My Nail Journey
I started my nail career in 2016 after I met a woman who I secretly wanted to be like. She had the million dollar house, drove an Audi and just oozed class.
I couldn’t match anything else about her but I could go to her nail technician.
I must have been a bad client because after about 4/5 visits she tells me I would be really good at nails and that she is so busy and because I had a background in beauty too she said I should seriously look into it.
I went home and the sameday signed up for my Certificate III in Nail Technology.
The problem was
- I had to wait 2 months to start (I hate waiting for things
- It was going to take 6 months to complete
I had done my research and I didn’t really have any other viable options so I waited and went to Tafe.
To my horror my educator wasn’t up to date with any of the new techniques or products and after watching YouTube videos and having one demonstration we were sent off in groups to work on each other.
The system had failed me, it didn’t matter if my nails lifted, if they were thick, lumpy, or had no uniformity, everyone who participated passed, that is the Australia Government Standard.
It wasn’t my standard and so even though I finished at the top of my class, I knew I still sucked. I couldn’t charge people money for what I was producing so I started attending every nail education session I could and paid for one one-on-one training to learn the simplest of things.
Looking back I essentially had to relearn EVERYTHING I was taught in school. It wasn’t that what I was taught was wrong, I just wasn’t taught what 100% completion of each task should look like, why it needed to be done that way and what would happen if I didn’t.
After learning all that, I thought it would be all smooth sailing. It wasn’t, I REALLY struggled to get clients and I even lived on a busy main road. Nothing I did seemed to help.
So again even though I had no idea how I was going to pay for it (we were living off Centrelink with 3 kids) I invested in myself again and hired my first business coach.
With her support and guidance, I finally put all the pieces together and in less than 15 months I hit 6 figures.
I went on to hire and train my first 6 staff, became an international nail educator and opened my commercial salon in just 3 years. We quickly became the most recommended nail salon in North Brisbane and were turning over $300,000 a year.
And I did it all:
With little (or no) budget
While being the primary breadwinner in our family and having to spend most of my time earning money
As a sleep-deprived mum with a toddler to care for, dogs to walk, a house to clean, meals to cook, and a knowing that this wasn’t meant to be the life I was living.
Covid changed everything for a lot of people and for me it reignited my passion for helping others.
I’m an all or nothing type of person. If someone wants to learn from me, I teach them EVERYTHING they could possibly need to know, the first time.
This is why in Nov 2020 I sold my client lists, shut down that salon, moved to the beach and opened the Elite Nail Academy.
I could no longer sit and watch ladies invest in themselves to be taken advantage of, given less than subpar education and then blame themselves when they just can’t make it work.
To be an Elite Nail Technician you need passion, understanding and determination, however none of that is enough if you aren’t taught the right skills and given the support YOU need to succeed.
With my newest commercial salon under management, It means I’m perfectly placed to share with you all of my NAIL secrets.

They academy runs all year, which means you can start as soon as you are ready.
This course is delivered with a combination of pre recorded step by step video content and explanations, interactive critique sessions, quizzes, infographics and a practical assessments.
We will do everything we can to help you succeed, however it is your responsibility to complete your home assignments in order to pass your competency assessments. Having models to practice on will result in quicker application speeds and practical training. The more you practice on real people the better you will become. A life like training finger is included in your kit also if you choose to receive it.
Each training session is recorded for you to be able to view at a later time.
You are encouraged to attend live sessions to ensure you can ask questions and get clarification on anything you are struggling with.
This training has been specifically designed to teach you all of the theoretical and practical knowledge required to work in the nail industry.
Although it is delivered online the in depth content allows you to learn like no other online educational experience.
With the state of the art recording used during this training it will feel like a hands on class to ensure a high level of understanding and comprehension.
There is also no need for placement in order to gain your certificate which is often very difficult to obtain.
When you submit your case studies they are reviewed via video and the link is sent to you to ensure you understand exactly where and how to improve.
Your educator has not only built a 7 figure business in less than 2 years, but she has also won Overall division champion at the Hair & Beauty Expo in Brisbane 2018 and travelled overseas for International educator training in 2019.
She is constantly undertaking additional training and learning about new products in the industry to stay up to date with what is available so you can rest assured that the information taught to you is relevant.
She is known as Nail Yoda for a reason.
The Hair & Beauty industry in Australia is currently unregulated, which means there is no governing body to uphold strict guidelines and education requirements for our field.
Thus offering a Certificate III in Nail Technology currently is not something we offer as it is filled with very basic nail education (resulting in students being given certificates when they are NOT industry ready I know I have one).
These courses mostly cover retail training or other beauty service skills which focus on you finishing your training and becoming an employee.
When the standard of ‘accredited training’ meets the same high standard of education the Elite Nail Academy delivers we will then become a Registered Training Organisation.
So what does this mean for you?
With the completion of your training with ENA you will be an industry qualified nail technician and able to obtain insurance and begin your nail career.
Don’t be fooled by the words qualified nail technician. Unless you are asked for your USI number you are not paying for a Nationally Accredited Certificate and if they are not upfront with this information my question to you is what else are they embellishing?
We are a strong believer in you get out what you put in. The more you practice, submit case studies for feedback and work through the course the faster you will develop as a Nail Technician.
I’ve had students complete training in 6 weeks and go on to produce work that techs who have been in the industry for 5 years can’t pull off
I’ve also had students who say they have been practicing, however they hadn’t and it shows in their work.
In short it comes down to you and how badly you want it!
You have access to the learning portal forever.
You paid for it so of course you can always refer back to it should you need.
What is limited is your direct assess to your educator.
When you become a student you will have a limited number of weeks (dependant on which course you purchase) where you will be able to message, call or text Carly and ask questions, submit case studies and ask for feedback. During these weeks she will respond to you within 24 hours (normally about 3-5)
Outside of those weeks you will still have access to Carly via the graduates group however the response time will be more like 48-72 hours for non urgent questions.
